A Challenge of Balance
Janie Raymond founded Plain Jane’s in January of 1996, after spending several years doing the garage sale circuit to find unique and affordable items for her own home. The original concept was to have a permanent garage sale where customers could buy and sell great home decor at reasonable prices. Ironically, the building found for Plain Jane’s was an old auto repair garage, built in the 1940’s of cinder block, with soaring ceilings and huge windows allowing plenty of natural light into the store. And so Plain Jane’s was born. After about a year in business, with the consignments rolling in and sales increasing each month, Janie began to understand that there had been a real need for a recycling outlet like Plain Jane’s in the Sonoma Valley.
